I’m inspired by people interacting with one another, and by individuals in relationship to landscapes, buildings, and interiors, particularly in the Hudson Valley, where I live and work. In a world where photography is everywhere, what does it mean to paint in a representational way? To paint an image is to give it distinction. Making a painting can take hours or days, so it’s an act that emphasizes — one that says: here is a moment the artist gave hours of consideration.
This consideration takes place on two levels. First, there’s the attention intrinsic to the actions of painting: selecting, composing, and drafting; devising a palette, loading the brush, and creating shapes of colors on canvas. Second, there’s observing people relating in a particular context. Behavior is fascinating, and we’re each original in the way we relate to one another. My paintings are an invitation to consider a given moment. Through my work, I’m inviting viewers to celebrate the world we all make together
